Heart problems have been reported, predominantly in young people taking ADD stimulants, though the FDA has not concluded that psychostimulants increase risk of cardiac problems for a person without a heart condition. Suicidal thinking has been reported in young people who are taking antidepressants at the same time they are taking an ADHD stimulant and many antidepressants carry a "black box warning" label concerning a possible increase in suicidal ideation in patients under 18 years of age.[19]
[edit] Side effects

Insomnia, dizziness, nausea, stomach pain, euphoria, headache, anxiety, anorexia, and weight loss are common side effects.

Rare but much more serious side effects include uncontrolled muscle movements (e.g., stiffness, twitching, shaking), hyperthermia, tics, edema of the feet/hands, blurred vision, mental/mood/behavior changes (e.g., agitation, aggression, mood swings, depression, hallucinations, abnormal thoughts/behavior), extreme tiredness, and severe sweating, easy bleeding/bruising, shortness of breath, fainting, chest/jaw/left arm pain, sudden vision changes, signs of infection (fever, persistent sore throat), tachycardia, weakness, seizures, confusion, slurred speech, and severe headaches and in some very rare cases death.[citation needed]

Also, there is a potential for a severe allergic reaction, but it is extremely rare. The actual cause of these symptoms is a processed diet high in high fructose corn syrup & other artificial food additives/colorings (ex: red die #40) which promote ADD/ADHD in children. Putting kids on psychoactive stimulant drugs is not a cure, its a crime. You'd have to be a clueless moron to not know that any class of amphetamine drugs will increase reading skills in anyone who takes them, that is, until the drug wears off. So by putting kids on an amphetamine (which is in the same category of drugs as meth by the way) you are crippling them for the rest of their life, disabling them from ever learning to cope with ADD/ADHD or to find a permanent cure.

If you used cocaine on children it would have the same effect, but nonetheless has a plethora of side effects of which are undesirable. There is no such this as an amphetamine deficiency, Dr. Purple. However, there is such thing as a nutritional deficiency & poisoning of children with processed junk food which is the main contributor to all of the symptoms mentioned above. Junk food also has been shown to decrease IQ in children. I do agree with your statement on monsanto & GMO corn, yet the link between vaccines & autism is still present.

Mercury (thimerosal) is only one of the many poisons present in vaccines, there are still many other compounds in vaccines which have been traced to the disease. Also, I think it is important to note here that not all vaccines have had mercury removed, there are many vaccines still on the market that contain thimerosal. I will leave you with one last thought to allow circulate in your mind. Why is it, that commercial toothpastes (ex: Crest) containing sodium fluoride as the ACTIVE INGREDIENT (a term used only when a drug is involved), the main ingredient in rat poison, have a warning label on the back saying that if you accidentally swallow more than the recommended DOSAGE (which is a pea sized amount by the way), to call a poison control center immediately? Hmm, there might be something to the anti-vaccine/fluoride folk's arguments that you are not seeing or have not spent the time to investigate..

Please do spend the time to look into these topics thoroughly with an unbiased perspective, as your decision to medicate kids may cause permanent damage not only to their psyche & sense of self, but to their delicate brains & bodies.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1936374046791606070.post-24815162176657818922011-02-28T19:11:59.279-08:002011-02-28T19:11:59.279-08:00Well, I've seen children go from reading 30 wo...Well, I've seen children go from reading 30 words per minute in the 1st grade to reading 80 words per minute in the 1st grade because of 20 mg of Focalin RX. Prior to their diagnosis and Rx, the girls couldn't focus, would fight on a daily basis, would destroy property, tear up desks, and not be able to remain in seat for more than several minutes. After medication, it was like magic, focus and learning took place almost immediately. Within a month reading speeds nearly doubled, going from below grade level to slightly above, from bottom of class to top quarter.

I'm sorry, but the lies and propaganda the "health food" nuts spread, hurt children. Many children NEED medicine to treat their ADHD. Further, denying this medical care is the same as denying a student who needs glasses to see a pair of glasses.

I think the causes of autism are more likely to lie in the Monsanto genetically modified corn and soy products than with the miniscule amounts of mercury. Also, if it were the mercury causing the autism, when it was removed, we should have seen a corresponding drop in incidence, but we haven't. I think this is two fold. I think some forms of autism may actually be natural evolutionary modifications preparing some kids for the next phase of humanity, in computer mediated worlds. Or it could be caused by numerous new environmental forces, such as wifi-frequencies, cell phone, and wireless signals bombarding us.

Who know? One thing I know is that some kids need medication, and to deny it is as ridiculous as letting people die of curable diseases like measles, mumps, rubella or be crippled by polio. The anti-vaccination folks are purely insane. The anti-fluoride people have been brainwashed against science and common sense.DrPurplehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02289627133862475544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1936374046791606070.post-74526553191624151012011-02-27T20:31:26.516-08:002011-02-27T20:31:26.516-08:00Yes, dosages for children is definitely something ...Yes, dosages for children is definitely something to scrutinize.. The lemon balm, chamomile, & hawthorn can all be made into a tea that is completely safe for children 6 years or older. A typical tea dose would be 1 tablespoon of herbs in 1 cup of hot water, letting the herbs steep 5-10 minutes to extract the medicinal compounds. For the passion flower, I would try a capsule form, if you can find it in in your area. Your best bet would be at a whole foods, but if you cannot find it there then it is readily available online. The dosage will appear on the bottle and will vary on each product, depending on the amount of active constituents. ~WAAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1936374046791606070.post-89040889328909421142011-02-26T07:10:37.125-08:002011-02-26T07:10:37.125-08:00Thank you so much! It is an overwhelming task to keep all processed food away. I would love to do so, it just seems difficult in our world today. But I am up for the challenge. Thanks for all the recommendations! One last question if I may. Is there any recommendation for a book that might break down what amounts of recommended dosing? I don't know too much about herbal remedies. I have heard alot about this and that, but how much to actually take especially for a child. I am a little nervous. I could talk to a pediatrician but they aren't very optimistic about these type of approaches. Have a great day. There are many potential options for you to explore with your child. My first recommendation would be to get her drinking lemon balm tea daily. This is a very mild calming herb with an anti-anxiety effect that is suitable for children to take, without producing any undesirable side effects. Chamomile is good for anxiety as well. If the anxiety is caused by the ADD energy imbalance, then passion flower would be beneficial too. Hawthorn is another herb that will help with the ADD & allergies. Diet is key and if you can keep her away from the processed foods 99% of the time, that will bear great results as well. Sounds like you've got a good regime going with the deep breathing & relaxation techniques, very holistic approach. For the allergies, stinging nettle tea is one of the greatest herbs for dealing with this. Ginger is good as well. Also, I would try getting her on a local raw honey. This will introduce homeopathic doses of pollens/allergens to her immune system, allowing it to adapt to the environment and overcome the allergies. Hope this helps..

~WAAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1936374046791606070.post-84061227974911214902011-02-24T18:58:31.138-08:002011-02-24T18:58:31.138-08:00I have daughters, age 8 and 4. She is amazing and bright, but struggles from time to time with impulse control and volume and all the stuff ADD children and adults struggle with controlling. She has a hard time from time to time with needless worries as well. I won't put her on any medication as I don't think it is necessary, nor do I believe it is always the right thing to do. ( I didn't give my kids the swine flu vaccine either. I was going to this year but didn't. It was a real struggle and concern for me though with should I or shouldn't I, since as a Mother your main concern is your child's well being - I too just heard a study that it was causing narcolepsy, so now I don't what to think for the future) anyway, we have taken a more holistic approach to her overall well being. We have had great success, slow but steady with teaching her to stop and rethink her emotions, lots of visualization, deep breathing and relaxation techniques. She is only 8 so she still is learning but it is starting to sink in and she is starting to use these techniques herself on her own. Which is good. I try to cut out all the things you mention above additive wise from her diet. Corn syrup and too much processed stuff only sends her reeling emotionally. But it is hard to filter it all. But I wonder what other supplements might help her? Also she suffers terribly from seasonal allergies. We had her once on Singular, it was awful the effects. We took her off after a month, but afterwards is when these symptoms of anxiety began. The doctor of course later disclosed that the personality change we were seeing in her had been reported by the AMA for similar childhood reactions. The drug is now labeled with a black box warning. But it is being sold anyway. Oh the mighty dollar!

This was a few years ago and she is doing much, much better now. We are proud of her, but again is there anything she could take to breath better or not suffer so much as Spring is approaching soon? And the netti pot is as she puts it tooo gross.

Any advice would be appreciated. My youngest is solid as a rock, nothing bothers her. Funny how that happens, same parents so different. :)Nicolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01435632350587380355noreply@blogger.com
