The Truth About Genetics

Genetics are very misunderstood not only by the public, but also by scientists. It is a widespread belief that the DNA is fixed and the only thing that will ever influence it is our genes which are programmed within. They will tell you, environment, diet, relationships, activity levels, sun, or even water will not alter your genes and that it's ok to eat processed foods and nutrient devoid substances. I will first assert that this belief is completely false and that everything we do influences our genes! How can this be true?

According to current scientific methods, it's not very widely known that food alone can change our genes. Everything that we consume or do is literally creating our DNA for our next generation. The human being is a miracle of existence, it is very very underestimated. What amazes me is how so many people can believe such erroneous things that don't make any sense or benefit them. Now let's see how we can use this information to our advantage...

If we want better health or more vitality we will first adjust our diets. This is a huge step towards upgrading our DNA. Genes are very susceptible to whatever the person is exposed to. If we eat food with lead or mercury in it, this can lead to DNA mutations. If we eat an organic strawberry, those antioxidants and phytochemicals positively influence our genes for the better.

Water is a great example. Millions all over the globe drink fluoride and chlorine consistently. Now I will prove to you how this damages the DNA. Fluoride alone calcifies the pineal gland which is responsible for manufacturing DNA! Chlorine in it's synthetic state kills our friendly probiotics in our digestive system.

Without going into the history of how these toxic chemical products were put in the water in the first place which is a long story in and of itself, let's talk about how we can access better water. Filters can get chlorine out of our water supply and some even claim to be able to remove fluoride. Yet there are still traces of chemicals, drugs, other unwanted substances. None of these are beneficial for promoting structured water that hydrates us. The best water in existence is spring water. If we cannot locate a spring in our area, we would be wise to look into the best water filters available and reliable methods to re-structure that water.

Sunlight, for example, changes our DNA for the better! How is this so? When our body reacts to the sun by producing a sun tan, our cells get healthy radiation from the sun and turn it into a positive form of energy. Sunlight also allows cholesterol in our bodies to synthesize into vitamin D. The sun is a great way to upgrade our DNA!

The lycopene in tomatoes protects our genes from mutations. Turmeric does the same, in an even more powerful manner. All herbs and fruits help build healthy genes and protect our DNA. Even exercises can change our DNA! The list goes on and on how we can build healthy genes and ensure a better future.

What's important to recognize is that science is still immature and we may not know as much as we think! Our thoughts affect our DNA. I ask that you embrace this knowledge as a form of empowerment. You are in charge of your reality. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Blessings,

~M

Watch out, Africa, Melinda is coming!

Melinda Gates has just unrolled her new program to reduce population in Africa and South Asia. Speaking at the Family Planning Summit in London, the other half of the Gates-Messiah operation pledged to bring contraception to millions of women and girls in the Third World. Flying under the radar; however, is the partnership between The Gates Foundation and drug giant, Pfizer, and therein lies the dirty little secret. The method of choice to prevent births? Injectable Depo-Provera, long known as a highly dangerous drug. It actually carries a black-box warning on its label, stating that severe bone loss is a consequence of its use. It also thins the vaginal lining, and research is ongoing to investigate the possibility that it increases the risk of breast cancer. Here is the relevant black-box quote: "Women who use Depro-Provera Contraceptive Injection may lose significant bone mineral density. Bone loss is greater with increased duration of use and may not be completely reversible." Change.org and several other groups are petitioning the US Congress to cut all federal funding for Depo-Provera. Despite cheerful PR about education of women on the benefits of contraception, and the need for informed consent, these programs have a way of turning into something else out in the field, where the needle meets the body. Depo-Provera also happens to be a drug of choice for the "chemical castration" of male sex offenders. That fact testifies to its powerful impact on the body. Nobody at the London Family Planning Summit was talking about Depo-Provera and its severe effects. The conference sponsors, the UN Population Fund, the USAID, and The Gates Foundation, are far more interested in population control. If millions of girls and women in Africa and South Asia are crippled by the Depo-Provera injections, well, that's just collateral damage. Several years from now, we'll no doubt see studies claiming an unexplained epidemic of osteoporosis in the Third World, which will lead to the application of some other highly toxic drug as the treatment of choice. Pfizer, the maker of Depo-Provera, happens to make such a drug: Fablyn (Lasofoxifene). So far, the FDA has withheld approval, but the EU gave it the green light in 2009. Fablyn has a serious problem. It causes blood clots in veins, which can be life-threatening. Watch out, Africa. Melinda's coming with Pfizer. You should ask her why she doesn't supply money to clean up contaminated water supplies, install rudimentary sanitation, provide real nutrition, and help restore stolen fertile land to local farmers. But you see, those actions aren't in line with the elite agenda. They make things better. The agenda is dedicated to Worse. Source - www.naturalnews.com

Holistic Communication: Even the alternative community isn't ready for THIS

As the mainstream struggles to accept alternative health, even staunch supporters cry foul when introduced to holistic communication. It may be that communicating with the whole person and respecting the underlying causes in the arena of interpersonal communication are simply too much for most everyone. My fascination with holistic communication began in the 1980's in high school psychology class. We were studying micro-expressions, the ever brief facial expressions that often contradict the primary verbal message. I was fascinated that a person could speak the words "thank you" while their face simultaneously flashed a lightning-fast expression that said something more along the lines of "f*** you!" Intrigued, I learned to observe a new level of interaction, eventually studying the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and non-verbal communication. Hidden feelings are nearly universal People are rarely taught to value feelings, especially the darker or socially unacceptable kind. In fact, most children are punished for feeling resentful, angry, jealous, afraid, spiteful, rebellious, greedy, nervous, and so on. Fearing rejection or punishment, people eventually learn to hide darker feelings, which quickly assume their position beneath words, breaking through to the surface - often at the most inopportune times - through facial expressions, voice tones, hard blinking, stiff posture and other non-verbal forms of communication. Fortunately, most people pretend not to notice. We practice avoiding our own underlying, socially unacceptable feelings, as well as those of others! Who wants to deal with all the ugliness? The problem is, studies suggest that repressing emotions is harmful to your overall health, causing high stress and high blood pressure, among other health concerns. The strange woman who forced me to communicate holistically I am a participant in and supporter of psychiatric orgone therapy. Brainchild of Dr. Wilhelm Reich, this bold and holistic, body-centered therapy model aims to relax emotional armoring, the rigid patterns of muscle tension that serve to repress and hold back powerful yet socially unacceptable emotions. In one particular session, I thanked my doctor, Mary Lou MacIlvaine, for something she did that I found helpful. Her reply was, "I heard the words, but what did your eyes say?" "I'm not sure, but I suppose I was glaring at you," I confessed. "Yes, you were and you tend to do that. So, let's just say that from now on - in here - you follow any 'thank you' with a 'f*** you.'" Now THAT is a holistic approach! It honestly took into account the whole of my feelings on the matter. The next time I felt to thank her, I did so, followed by a familiar resentment and a solid curse. To my amazement, I felt complete because my communication was complete. My underlying resentment of this crazy lady who had been challenging my dearest assumptions for months was finally coming through freely. Of course, you must think I am nuts, but consider the following: • The super nice woman who continually does for others, and never complains except under her breath. • The tough guy that looks like a scared little boy in the briefest moments of vulnerability. • The child who promises to obey and reminds mom and dad how much he loves them, then promptly continues doing what he wants with a scowl on his face. • The preacher who entertains prostitutes on the side. The prostitute, alluring and sexy on the outside, hates the man with a passion while letting him have his way with her. • The man called "Mr. Natural" who, at night, takes out his strong box, kept under lock and key, then pulls out a Hostess Twinkie and pops it in his mouth! • The enlightened one who embraces the Universal laws of love and light, guiding others toward certain fulfillment and prosperity, who silently stresses over money and can barely pay the rent. And so forth. The above are not merely examples pulled out of thin air, but real life scenarios that I have personally encountered as a therapist and coach. In other words, underlying causes of mental, emotional and relationship problems are for real. They are continually brewing just under the surface and must be dealt with if we are to become mentally, emotionally and spiritually whole. The problem is, these issues are UGLY! So is a fatty liver, a leaky gut and an intestinal parasite. In the holistic community we have no problem slinging these terms around as if we had unveiled a fine gem. Why not embrace and express all of our ugly feelings when we feel them? If we are committed "whole-ists" then why do we bite back the part of our message that is the ugliest? We hold back because we want to keep our jobs, spare our children, preserve our marriage, keep the public peace and stay out of jail. Holding back raw emotion is the wise thing to do in most situations. Now what? Some people think the answer is to find a safe place to "let it all out" like I have suggested with the holistic thank you technique. This is worthwhile, but not the ultimate answer. The solution lies in the mature expression of our deeper feelings. Feelings and attitudes of all kinds exist. To pretend otherwise, or cover up the underlying tension, is like treating surface symptoms and only acknowledging part of the person. The whole truth remains half-buried and this does not lead to healthy, whole, honest relationships. The problem is, are you supposed to express your anger "in a mature way" to your boss who'd rather not hear it? Probably not. We're in a real pickle between the demands of the social world and the realities of emotional life. Still, there is a place to start - with the people closest to you. Slowly become aware and learn to express your whole self in a mature and respectful way. Regardless of what you may be feeling, there is a respectful way to communicate it and give those you care about feedback from your entire self; the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful. It's all part of living holistically. Source - www.naturalnews.com

Nanoparticle technology turns personal care products toxic

Nanoparticle technology has been in popular use by skincare and cosmetics companies now for roughly a decade. The process takes normal sized, visibly detectable particles of materials like mica and other common ingredients and turns them so small they are invisible to the naked eye. What would be the purpose behind micronizing particles? This makes products a more desirable consistency and caters to a perceived consumer demand for particular consistencies and ease of application. A perfect example is the use of nanoparticles of zinc oxide in sunscreens to reduce the "chalk white" effect that full sized particles can cause when applied to the skin. The problem with nanoparticles Minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, commonly used in sunscreen lotions, foundation and other liquid types of lotions are harmless in their normal size. They simply sit on the skin rather than absorbing in to the skin since they are too large to penetrate its protective barrier. However, when these are broken down into nanoparticles which are often smaller than the size of a red blood cell, they are easily absorbed into the skin. There is research showing that nanoparticles of zinc oxide and other ingredients like aluminum collect in parts of the brain and cause cell death. These particles are so easily absorbed that they are detectable in all areas of the body, including vital organs. Animal studies have shown that when they are applied to the skin, they penetrate tissues and cells causing damage when they begin to build up. The tiny size gives these particles the ability to travel the body extensively and can enhance their toxicity. Nanoparticle use not just found in cosmetics and personal care products Nanotechnology is not just used in topical skin care products. It is also used in food colorings, food packaging and even glare proof coatings on sunglasses. These are all areas of opportunity for these nanoparticles to be introduced into the body where they can cause tissue damage. Basically any consumer product that can benefit from a smoother consistency or requiring a certain look can use this particle technology to achieve this. This means we are likely using products now that contain these microscopic particles without realizing it. The FDA is getting involved Thanks to the continued appeals of consumer rights groups, the FDA has taken notice of nanotechnology. The agency recently drafted guidelines for the use of nanotechnology and has asked various companies known for extensive use of these ingredients for varying degrees of accountability. For foods or food packaging using nanoparticles, the FDA has stated that companies may need to ultimately submit safety data to continue using the technology. For cosmetics that are not regulated by the FDA currently, the agency has submitted warnings that these companies are ultimately responsible for the overall safety of their products. While this may not be groundbreaking, it is a step in the right direction and shows that the agency is aware there are serious health concerns regarding the use of nanoparticles. It has also raised public awareness on the issue and caused health-conscious consumers to ask the necessary questions about the products they use. Source - www.naturalnews.com

Delicious and nutritious snacking options - Sweet potato fries and kale chips

Snacking is often associated with unhealthy foods. The easiest foods to snack on are those that come out of a bag or box, and most foods that come prepackaged are heavily processed and full of unhealthy additives. There are some foods that are easy to prepare, delicious to eat, and have significant nutritional properties. Two healthy snacking alternatives to store-bought potato chips and trail mixes are sweet potato fries and kale chips. Sweet Potato Fries Sweet potatoes are packed with essential vitamins and minerals. Vitamins A, B, and C are present in sweet potatoes along with manganese, potassium, and iron. Beta-carotene, an antioxidant that protects cells from damaging free radicals, is abundant in sweet potatoes. Protecting against free radicals is critical to health, as free radicals contribute to the aging process and many chronic diseases. Sweet potatoes are high in fiber, containing four grams each on average. Fiber promotes proper digestion and increases satiety, making sweet potatoes a snack that actually promotes feeling full. Sweet potato fries can be made by cutting up a sweet potato, sprinkling on some sea salt and olive oil and then cooking the cut up sweet potato pieces in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Kale Chips Kale's nutritional content is very impressive as well. Only one cup of kale contains 180 percent of the recommended daily vitamin A, 200 percent of the recommended vitamin C, and 1,020 percent of the recommended vitamin K. The extremely high vitamin K content in kale is conducive to keeping bones and tissues healthy. Lutein and zeaxanthin compounds exist in high levels in kale, promoting eye health. Kale is doubly beneficial for eyes because of its high vitamin A content. Kale chips are made by sprinkling sea salt and olive oil on the kale leaves and then cooking them in the oven at 250 degrees for 30 minutes. The stems of kale can be eaten as well, but doesn't get crunchy like the kale leaves. Many of the vitamins found in sweet potatoes and kale are fat soluble, meaning the body can make the best use of them if they are consumed with dietary fat. Olive oil is a healthy source of fat, making it an excellent addition to sweet potatoes and kale. Snacking is an activity that most people engage in daily. Artificial foods are a common choice for in between meal eating, but they are often nutritionally empty. Sweet potato fries and kale chips are two snacking alternatives that have a lot more to offer from a nutrition standpoint. Source - www.naturalnews.com

'Lead-free' jewelry for children found to be loaded with lead

Last week, 16 jewelry retailers and suppliers were sued by the state of California for selling jewelry with more than 1,000 times the allowable lead, as lead-free. Many of the defendants are repeat offenders, and include manufacturers, shippers, sellers, distributors, and traders that do business in California. The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has publicized this issue a great deal, and despite the public's concern, they have traced hundreds of styles of jewelry that violate the lead standards to these defendants over the last three years. All of the jewelry was labeled as lead-free, or in compliance with lead standards. Some of the jewelry was intended for small children, who are especially susceptible to adverse health effects from exposure to lead. Without regard to public safety California's attorney general is concerned that the unlawful practices of the defendants can result in acute and chronic health effects for adults and children. Toxic metal exposure can cause headaches, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, anemia, loss of appetite, constipation, muscle soreness, and neurological impairments such as loss of balance, loss of ability to concentrate, seizures, encephalopathy, coma, even death. For children, who are especially sensitive to lead poisoning since their bodies and brains are still developing, even mild cases could cause behavior problems, inattention, and learning disabilities, as well as a host of physical health effects. Lead in children's jewelry is even more dangerous if it is placed in the mouth, as children are prone to do, or even swallowed, which would result in higher lead absorption. Lead is used in jewelry for several reasons: • It makes the base metal easier to shape • It makes the jewelry feel heavier • It's cheaper to use than other metals • It is sometimes used as a stabilizer in some plastics such as PVC, which is used in costume or children's jewelry. In California, children's jewelry cannot contain lead content exceeding 600 parts per million. The legal state limit for adult jewelry is 60,000 parts per million. Most of the tested pieces were several hundred times over those limits. Attorney General Harris says the defendants are selling their stuff in pursuit of profit, without regard for public safety. She is seeking injunctions and civil penalties. Not just lead - cadmium too There are still a lot of products on the market with high levels of two neurotoxins: lead and cadmium, which can cause permanent brain damage. Cadmium in another metal to watch for in children's jewelry. Cadmium is more often associated with cigarette smoke than jewelry. It is highly toxic and is a known human carcinogen. Earlier this year the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) chairwoman warned parents against buying cheap jewelry for their kids, such as that from dollar stores or gumball dispensers, and even places like Claire's, Walmart, and other chain stores. A lot of the jewelry on the market that doesn't meet the safety requirements of no more than 0.03 percent cadmium by weight was made in China. Most jewelry tested for cadmium exceeded the CPSC's proposed limits by more than 100 times. Several watchdog organizations are in the process of cracking down on cadmium as well as lead. Some states are cracking down too, such as California and Rhode Island. There are still no federal regulations on safe levels of these metals. Over the last decade, there have been approximately 5,000 emergency room visits each year by children who had swallowed inexpensive jewelry. Parents can check recall lists and the CPSC website for information on unsafe products, but it's easier and safer to just take away any cheap metal jewelry. Source - www.naturalnews.com

The jury is in - Olive oil lowers mortality by a quarter and heart disease by nearly one-half

Followers of the popular Mediterranean diet have known for years that eating fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds and plenty of extra virgin olive oil is beneficial to health. Recent studies have continued to bolster this eating pattern, with much less emphasis on overcooked meats, hydrogenated fats and fried foods. They may not realize that many of the benefits come from the monounsaturated fats provided by the liberal use of fresh-pressed olive oil. Reporting in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers from Spain found that the monounsaturated fats found in olive oil work synergistically with essential fatty acids such as the omega-3 fat, DHA to enhance their incorporation into cell membranes. The scientists found an association between greater olive oil intake and a lower risk of dying over an average of 13.4 years of follow-up. The researchers analyzed data garnered from dietary questionnaires provided from a cohort of 40,622 men and women residing in Spain, aged 29 to 69 years who were recruited from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition. The questions specifically detailed caloric intake and consumption of olive oil in their diet. During the follow-up period, there were 416 deaths from cardiovascular disease, 956 cancer deaths and 417 deaths from other causes. Olive oil shields against inflammation and prevents blood sugar spikes to thwart chronic disease Study participants whose olive oil intake ranked in the top quarter had a 26 percent lower risk of dying of any cause and a 44 percent lower risk of dying from heart disease compared to those who did not consume olive oil. The risk of mortality from causes other than cancer or heart disease was reduced by 38 percent for those whose olive oil intake was greatest. The authors noted that there is evidence that olive oil may be protective against specific types of cancer, particularly breast cancer. The scientists conducting the study determined that protective monounsaturated fats, vitamin E and phenolic compounds in olive oil provide a synergistic effect to shield against heart disease. In prior research, olive oil has been shown to improve systemic inflammation and glycemic control in randomized clinical trials. The authors concluded, "To our knowledge, this is the first prospective study to show that olive oil consumption reduces the risk of mortality... our findings provide further evidence on the effects that one of the key components of the Mediterranean diet has on mortality and support the need to preserve the habitual use of olive oil within this healthy dietary pattern." Nutrition experts recommend adding one to two tablespoons of fresh-pressed extra virgin olive oil (post-cooking to prevent degradation of the oil) to your meals each day to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. Milk pasteurization promotes the growth of super germs, say scientists

Human interference with mother nature is always a bad idea, and new research has identified spore-forming bacteria that not only survives milk pasteurization, but are able to germinate as a result of the heat. Certain bacteria have the ability to form a tough, protective endospore which allows them to survive extreme conditions. Food scientists have identified Paenibacillus bacteria as the predominant spore-forming bacteria in milk. Nature's ecosystem is involved in development of everything around us, and the different microorganisms have varying important functions. When we spray our soil with chemicals, use antibiotics, pasteurize food, etc. we damage this ecosystem and create a cascade of problems. It's already known that milk pasteurization can force proteins and fats into new configurations. New proteins with repetitive amino acids are created, and these protein fibers are important in several diseases. Another case made against pasteurized dairy is that it's considered a dead product. However, research shows that certain bacteria not only survive pasteurization, but are able to reproduce in refrigerated dairy. Researchers at Cornell's College of Agriculture have identified Paenibacillus bacteria as the most important spore formers in dairy products, and say that the growth of Paenibacillus bacteria is stimulated by heat treatment like pasteurization. Strains of this bacteria can survive extreme conditions and have adapted to survive both high heat and refrigeration. The health implications of prolonged consumption of these spore-formers are not yet known, but research shows that they can foul milk and other food products. The lab at Cornell's college found that reducing the refrigeration temperature can decrease the growth of the bacteria, especially when the product is kept for a long time after pasteurization. Some dairy processors have increased the pasteurization temperatures further, in an attempt to kill spore-formers. Early reports indicate that these measures only result in more spoilage. Organic farming is the only sustainable method to create quality products and limit these super germs. Raw milk from healthy animals contains a wide variety of microorganisms and has a natural defense against certain "bad" bacteria. Whether spore-formers are present in fermented dairy products is not yet known. Source - www.naturalnews.com

More athletes choose real food and reject synthetic 'high-tech' sports drinks and supplements

Not all of today's high-tech, ultra-talented athletes are hooked on today's high-tech supplements. In fact, more than a few of them are beginning to do the right thing for their bodies by rejecting synthetic sports drinks and supplements, in favor of real food. The natural food phenomenon is being highlighted as the start of the 2012 Olympic Games in London is set for later this month, when viewers of the games will no doubt be bombarded with ads for so-called "sports" drinks, nutritional supplements and energy gels - the latter of which comes in small foil packages and which so many runners and cyclists use during their events. In fact, top-selling Powerade is the "official" sports drink of the 2012 Olympics, National Public Radio reported recently, implying that "processed sports foods and neon-colored drinks are the stuff that gold medalists are made of. Increasingly; however, sports nutritionists and professional athletes are not in agreement. Physician and nutrition expert David Katz, of the Yale University School of Medicine, told NPR that sports drinks on average are about as bad as soda. "[Sports drink companies'] marketing is based on the gimmick that somehow this extra load of sugar and calories will turn you into an athlete," he said. We need electrolytes, true, but... One of the most prevalent of these drinks is Gatorade, which sells itself as an end-all, be-all supplement for athletic prowess. One of its most effective pitches is that the drink can rehydrate a body more efficiently than simple water. Leslie Bonci, a dietary advisor to a number of Major League Baseball teams and a Gatorade consultant says the body can absorb the drink more quickly than water alone, and that the sugar contained in Gatorade provides necessary calories that water can't. "Gatorade is a source of fluid, it's a source of energy, and it's a source of electrolytes," she said. Indeed, electrolytes are essential minerals that help the body retain water. It's also true that humans can't live without electrolytes. But those contained in Gatorade and Powerade have to be added; they occur naturally in several foods, including fruits, vegetables, grains, milk and even coconut water, NPR reported. Dr. Katz of Yale said the sugar content of sports drinks is more likely to create unwanted side effects than help you become a better competitor and finish a race or game stronger. Such side effects include tooth decay and extra layers of fat that won't go away, no matter how vigorously you exercise. Part of that, he notes, is because makers of sports drinks and nutritional supplements don't just encourage their use during sporting events, but before and after as well. One such brand is GU Energy, a popular foil-wrapped gel that contains 100 calories in each pouch. The manufacturer advises sucking one of them down before a workout, then every 45 minutes during the workout. And, for the workout-recovery meal, there is GU Recovery Brew. "The sports nutrition industry just tells us to eat, eat, eat," Stanford University nutrition coach Stacy Sims said. "They don't care how big you are or whether you're a man or a woman or if you're trying to lose weight." (NPR went onto to say that Sims co-founded her own sports nutrition company called Osmo, "which makes powdered sports drinks for hydration and recovery, and are purportedly easier on the body than syrupy energy gels.") Stay natural, not flabby And even though pediatricians and many health care professionals advise drinking lots of water during hot days on practice fields, you'll see most kids slurping on the faddish sports and energy drinks. More and more professional sports figures; however, are coming out against them. Among them is mountain biker Gary Fisher, who said all the "engineered nutrition" products keep many an amateur athlete on the hefty side. "I see guys who really put in the miles, and they have a gut that never goes away," he said, adding that he prefers to eat roast beef sandwiches, burritos, nuts and bananas during bike rides. Afterward, he said, he often eats a large chicken or fish helping with a salad dressed in olive oil. Stanford's Sims says flat out - keep away from the goos and gels unless you just don't have anything else to consume. "The fact is, every time you take a gel, you're doing the exact opposite of what you want to do," she said. Source - www.naturalnews.com

Now scientists push genetically modified bacteria to fight malaria

Malaria affects 1 in 12 humans, or 500 million people. Carried by the mosquito, it is one of the most widespread and dangerous insect spread diseases in the world. Now scientists say they have developed a new solution to the disease, which prevents the mosquito from carrying the disease. The new strategy is to infect mosquitoes with a genetically engineered bacteria. This releases proteins that puncture a hole in the membrane of the developing malaria parasite which kills it. These proteins are deadly to the malaria parasite but harmless to mosquitoes and humans. The bacteria is an altered form of Pantoea agglomerans which is present in the gut of the Anopheles gambiae mosquito, the most prevalent malaria carrying mosquito in Africa. The bacteria also has a second way of preventing the spread of malaria in that it binds to a protein called plasminogen that the parasite needs from the host mosquito. The parasite needs this protein to be able to migrate out of the gut of the mosquito; by binding to the protein, the bacteria blocks access to the plasminogen and the parasite is trapped. A report from the National Academy of Sciences showed the modified bacteria prevented the development of the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum by up to 98 percent within the mosquito. This is known to be the most deadly type of malaria. Professor Marcelo Jacobs-Lorena, of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland, said: "In the past, we worked to genetically modify the mosquito to resist malaria, but genetic modification of bacteria is a simpler approach. The ultimate goal is to completely prevent the mosquito from spreading the malaria parasite to people." Are GM bacteria tested enough to be safe? While this is a welcome treatment in the fight against malaria, a question has to be asked as to the safety of genetically modifying bacteria this way. Bacteria mutate and create new strains readily, especially in commonly transferred infections. By modifying this bacteria this way, there is no guarantee that the bacteria will remain safe and effective; also, there is nothing to stop the parasite from developing a survival strategy that could make the parasite more problematic. This is possible as two percent of the malaria parasites survive, and therefore, will go on to produce more of the resistant type of the parasite. The scientists say that they should be able to release this bacteria soon to rid the world of malaria; however, there should be rigorous testing done before we embark down the route of using this bacterial unknown. Dangerous levels of Fukushima radiation headed for West Coast, say scientists

In the immediate wake of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster that occurred in Japan last year, radioactive releases of epic proportions flooded the waters of the Pacific Ocean, where they now flow adrift. And even though more than a year has passed since the time of the first releases, some scientists believe the worst is yet to come as these water-borne radioactive plumes head for the U.S. West Coast. Russia Today (RT) reports that a team of scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory recently constructed some models designed to assess the impact of Fukushima radiation over the longer term. To do this, they simulated ocean currents in the Pacific, and evaluated how radiation would both disperse and travel. They discovered that, within the next few years, the worst of Fukushima's radiation releases will make its way across the Pacific and hit the American coastline. So-called "packets" of radiation are also expected to continue forming as the larger plumes travel via the ocean currents, which could result in highly radioactive waves of ocean water striking West Coast beaches in the very near future. "Within one year, it will have spread over the entire western half of the North Pacific, and in five years we predict it will reach the U.S. West Coast," says Claus Boning, co-author of the study, about the Fukushima radiation releases. "The levels of radiation that hit the U.S. coast will be small relative to the levels released by Fukushima. But we cannot accurately estimate what those levels will be because we do not know for certain what was released by Fukushima." Leaked - Fukushima clean-up crews covered up true radiation readings And the world may never know just how much radiation was, and potentially continues to be, released by Fukushima, as a recently leaked recording verifies that Fukushima plant workers were encouraged to lie about radiation readings at the plant. According to RT, clean-up workers were given lead boxes which they were told to use as "shields" to block radiation readings in order to make them appear lower than they really were. This obviously insinuates that radiation readings were far higher at the Fukushima plant than the world was told they were, and that these levels more than likely far exceeded the maximum exposure levels considered to be safe for plant workers. The company accused of the cover-up, Build-up, later admitted that workers were encouraged to wear these deceptive radiation shields. Radiation readings at Reactor 1 reach record levels The situation at the Fukushima plant itself appears to still be highly problematic as well, as reports indicate that radiation levels at Reactor 1, the fuel rod of which sustained 70 percent damage as a result of the disaster, are the highest they have ever been. According to the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), which owns the Fukushima plant, levels of radiation at Reactor 1 reached 10 times higher than levels recorded at Reactors 2 and 3. "Workers cannot enter the site and we must use robots for the demolition," said TEPCO officials about the severity of the situation. According to reports, levels of radiation in the basement water of Reactor 1 reached 10,300 millisieverts per hour (mSv/hr), which is the equivalent of receiving the maximum annual dose of radiation in just 20 seconds, or enough to become gravely ill in just a few minutes. Vitamin D revealed to be miracle anti-cancer 'drug' with astonishing chemical properties

A new study published this month finds that the hormonally active form of vitamin D, Calcitriol 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D(3), inhibits the growth of many kinds of cancerous cells, including breast cancer, indicating that vitamin D3 can be useful in treating and even preventing a variety of cancers. Authors of the study said that caner cell growth is inhibited by "anticancer actions including cell cycle arrest, promotion of apoptosis and inhibition of invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis." Vitamin D's anti-inflammatory properties and interference with estrogen synthesis further explains its anti-tumor properties. Two studies from 2007 used meta-analysis, which combines data from multiple reports, to find that therapeutic doses of vitamin D could prevent up to half of all cases of breast cancer, and two-thirds of all cases of colorectal cancer in the United States. The studies showed a direct correlation between blood levels of vitamin D and cancer. Those with the highest blood levels were found to be at the lowest risk, and the lowest blood levels at the highest risk. Many sources still try to cast a shadow on the effectiveness of vitamin D, citing that a specific dose strength has not yet been established, and needs more research. It likely won't be narrowed down to a one-size-fits-all dose, because every body is different, and if it were, it wouldn't be as effective. One other thing that may be giving varied results regarding dosing is the source of vitamin D used - it varies from study to study. Typically, higher doses are required of synthetic sources to increase blood levels, and they don't generally have the same effect as natural sources. Vitamin D facts The "sunshine" vitamin, vitamin D is fat-soluble vitamin required for the absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorous. It protects against muscle weakness, regulates heartbeat, is necessary for normal blood clotting and thyroid function, and regulates more than 2,000 genes, affecting the proliferation and death of cells. Vitamin D comes in several forms. The kind that comes from food is D2. There is a synthetic form, D5. The most active is the most natural kind, D3. It is synthesized in the skin in response to the sun's ultraviolet rays. There is a cholesterol compound in the skin that is a precursor of vitamin D. The D we get from food and supplements is not fully active until it goes through the liver and kidneys, where it is converted, then it circulates through the blood like a hormone. According to Bach, problems from deficiency may include: heart disease, birth defects, depression, hypertension, stroke, dementia, fibromyalgia, impaired bone mineralization, skin, breast, prostate and other cancers, multiple sclerosis, insomnia, eye problems, problems with pregnancy, and other chronic diseases. It is estimated that more than one billion people worldwide, and 77 percent of Americans, are deficient in vitamin D. It is not possible for most people to consume enough vitamin D thorough diet alone. It is found in fatty saltwater fish and fish liver oils, such as halibut, salmon, sardines, and cod liver oil. It is also added (fortified) to diary and eggs, so you'll find it in things like milk, yogurt, and butter. Other foods that have vitamin D include dandelion greens, oatmeal, cereals, and sweet potatoes. Having a healthy and balanced diet can prevent cancer, and the need for prescriptions that contribute to cancer, such as cholesterol reducing drugs that inhibit vitamin D absorption from the sun. Even the National Cancer Institute estimates that 80 percent of cancer cases could be prevented. Most people supplement to get enough vitamin D. The recommended doses are generally not enough to address health problems. Be sure your supplements come from whole food vitamins so that higher doses won't be detrimental to your health, as they might from synthetic vitamin sources. Eating good food, limiting unhealthy food and substances, getting exercise, and soaking up a bit of sun are critical to happiness and lasting health. So get out there and have fun - and help prevent cancer while you're at it! Source - www.naturalnews.com

GMO wars - Monsanto suing DuPont to see who will dominate the world's food supply

Biotechnology giant Monsanto is suing one of its largest rivals, DuPont, for what the company says are violations of a licensing agreement established between the two firms back in 2002. And at the very same time, DuPont is suing Monsanto for allegedly, illegally withholding important details from the federal patent office about its Roundup Ready trait, as well as for allegedly engaging in anticompetitive business practices that restrict competitive agriculture. Many people are unaware of this, but DuPont's Pioneer Hi-Bred division, which produces seeds, several years ago tried to develop its own genetically-modified (GM) soybean product known as Optimum GAT that was intended to rival Monsanto's Roundup Ready GM soy product. When the original Optimum GAT product failed to perform as intended; however, DuPont decided to add Monsanto's Roundup Ready trait onto Optimum GAT's existing glyphosate-resistant trait, a fact that did not come to light until 2009. Once DuPont's trait-blending activity became public knowledge, Monsanto initiated legal action against DuPont for allegedly using its own Roundup Ready trait in violation of the established licensing agreement between the two companies, which prohibited DuPont's creation of a GM soy product containing multiple GM traits. According to Monsanto, DuPont illegally used the Roundup Ready trait without a license in hundreds of seed lines back in 2008. "For years, they told the world GAT was going to work," said George C. Lombardi, an attorney for Monsanto, during Monsanto's opening arguments before the jury. "When it failed, they relied on the Roundup Ready product." But DuPont, in its own defense, says Monsanto's Roundup Ready patent is unenforceable because it was not properly obtained. According to the company, Monsanto failed to disclose pertinent details in its patent filing about how Roundup Ready seeds work, and how they are made. In fact, DuPont alleges Monsanto actually lied to the federal government in order to obtain the patent, which means it cannot legally be considered valid. "(Monsanto's Roundup Ready soybean patent) is invalid and unenforceable because Monsanto intentionally deceived the United States Patent and Trademark Office on several occasions as it procured the patent," said Thomas L. Sager, DuPont Senior Vice President and General Counsel, in a recent statement. The trial, which is expected to last several weeks, officially began on July 9, 2012. Some commentators believe the case will more than likely be settled rather than take its full course because neither Monsanto nor DuPont want to be hit with a surprise verdict. If the case does proceed; however, Monsanto's Roundup Ready patent could end up being declared null and void, which would be a significant victory for food freedom. Source - www.naturalnews.com

American fast food diet unleashes disease epidemic sweeping across Asia

Though increasingly looked down upon here in the U.S. as a sign of slothfulness and low socioeconomic status, routine fast food consumption in some parts of the world is actually considered to be culturally desirable. But as foreigners progressively adopt the American fast-food lifestyle in place of their own native foods, rates of chronic disease are skyrocketing, including in East and Southeast Asia where diabetes and heart disease rates are off the charts. According to a recent study published in the journal Circulation, globalization continues to usher U.S.-style fast food into East Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and Cambodia, where natives, especially those from the younger generations, are quickly adopting things like hamburgers and fries in place of their traditional fare. And based on the data, this Western fast food craze is responsible for a significant uptick in cases of diabetes and heart disease. For their study, a team of researchers from the University of Minnesota (UM) School of Public Health analyzed data on more than 60,000 Singaporeans of Chinese descent. Study participants were interviewed beginning in the 1990s, and followed and tracked for about ten years. At the end of the study, researchers compared the participants' eating habits to rates of chronic disease. They found that, among participants who were between the ages of 45 and 74 at the beginning of the study, 1,397 died of cardiac illness by the end of the study, and 2,252 developed type-2 diabetes. Those who ate fast food two or more times a week were 27 percent more likely than others to develop type-2 diabetes, while the same group was 56 percent more likely to die from cardiac illness. Those who ate American-style fast food four or more times a week were even worse off, as they were nearly twice as likely to die of cardiac illness than participants who ate no fast food. And interestingly, it was only American-style fast food that was linked to the disease uptick -- native fast foods like dim sum, noodles, and dumplings did not appear to increase the participants' risk of developing chronic disease. "Many cultures welcome (Western fast food) because it's a sign they're developing their economies," says Andrew Adegaard, author of the study from the UM School of Public Health. "But while it may be desirable from a cultural standpoint, from a health perspective there may be a cost. It wasn't their own snacks that was putting them at increased risk, but American-style fast food." Source - www.naturalnews.com

Did you know that 'natural' foods can still contain GMOs? The main difference between 'organic' and 'natural'

Have you ever wondered what "natural" and "organic" mean on labels? If so, you're not alone. Food labels today are filled with a number of ingredients that are barely pronounceable, let alone common enough to know what they actually are. The good news is that with more and more people looking for healthier options to choose from at supermarkets, there are a lot more options today than there were. However, with the variety of products on shelves, it makes it difficult to know what the best choices truly are. When it comes to "natural" and "organic," there is a main difference you need to be aware of. One is strictly regulated and the other label can mean, well just about anything. An organic label means that the product is strictly regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This is good news for all you "organic" shoppers, it means that organic products are regulated from start to finish, assuring that it doesn't contain certain ingredients found in non-organic foods and products. The USDA says that organic food has to be grown without toxic, synthetic pesticides and herbicides, GMOs, and antibiotics or artificial growth hormones. It also helps that organic farms do not add chemicals to the air, water, and soil. There have been studies that show organic farming also helps produce more nutrient-dense crops. As far as "natural," it is a bit more open ended. In fact, it is all the way open ended. The "natural" labels are not strictly defined or regulated. It could mean that the food doesn't contain preservatives, or that it is minimally processed, and it could mean none of those things. It is important to know that "natural" foods could even contain toxic chemicals and GMOs as they are not regulated like "organic" foods. Hence, it becomes that much more important to know how to read labels and understand what is being put in the products you purchase. Natural and organic have two different definitions, and it is important to know the difference. Many companies are finding that just by adding "natural" to a label makes it more appealing to the consumer; however, it may not be more beneficial to your health. The bottom line is that organic food is the best choice for your health with its heavily regulated requirements and guidelines. Source - www.naturalnews.com

Protect your child from the dangers of Ritalin - Four Homeopathic remedies to treat ADHD and ADD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Attention deficit disorder, (ADHD and ADD) are conditions producing difficult behavior in children and some adults, where their impulse control and other actions interfere with daily life. Homeopathy offers relief in some instances, making it easier for kids to integrate into every day social and school activities. In a society where vaccines damage young children and dangerous drugs like Ritalin are prescribed frequently to reduce ADHD symptoms to "normalize" behavior, homeopathic medicine is a welcome alternative providing safe and effective treatment that supports both management and healing. Homeopathy works by activating the individual's vital force or immune system to respond to an outside stimulus, allowing a person to experience self-healing. ADHD and ADD Symptoms Common symptoms characterizing this disorder are inattentiveness, where a child has difficulty maintaining his focus and daydreams or is easily diverted from a task. Hyperactivity manifests in a child who is unable to sit still quietly, needing to continually move and talk. Impulsivity makes children behave without giving any thought to actions. Impulsive children may frequently interrupt or have little control in judgment. In many cases, a combination of some or all of these symptoms may be evident in one individual. Homeopathy Anecdotal evidence seen by parents, teachers and homeopaths indicates the efficacy of homeopathic treatment for ADHD children; even though clinical trials have produced mixed results. A major factor influencing the success of homeopathic treatment involves finding a qualified and knowledgeable homeopathic practitioner to administer a well-chosen remedy. Many remedies are available to help children and adults suffering from ADHD and ADD, and a series of remedies may be needed to bring about the desired cure. Organizations such as the National Center for Homeopathy (http://nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org/) provide online lists of practitioners to assist families in locating homeopaths in their areas. Do not self-treat if you or your child suffers from this disorder. Common homeopathic remedies for ADHD and ADD · Hyoscyamus Niger: This remedy is indicated for children experiencing poor impulse control. These children may be over exuberant, acting like the class clown, constantly moving around, making jokes, laughing and interrupting. Often, many of their actions and jokes are sexually based, and they can be obscene and vulgar. This remedy relieves many of these symptoms including various other sexually explicit actions. · Stramonium: This remedy is indicated for children who experience excessive fears, especially of being alone or the dark. They can be violent, aggressive and full of rage. A child may scream in hysteria if left alone at nighttime or put in time out. The remedy is also indicated for kids who experience post traumatic stress disorder. · Cina: This remedy is indicated for the child who has an aversion to being looked at or touched. The child may become aggressive when touched or reprimanded, stiffening his body like a board, holding his breath or refusing to respond. The remedy often calms excessively irritable children who are capricious, asking for things they want and then violently throwing them away. · Tarentula hispanica: This remedy is indicated for the jealous, vengeful child who is sensitive to noise. He may be overly busy, constantly moving, likes to climb, is sensitive to vibrations and music, and is very hurried in all movements. He may express feeling small and lesser-than, powerless and be deceitful and cunning in his thoughts and actions. These children, like those needing Hyoscyamus, are often overly sexual. Breaking News - Cancer physician speaks out about cancer fraud

In 1998, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) approved funding for a landmark cancer study comparing a nutritional enzyme approach to chemotherapy. Many supporters hoped that this clinical trial would bring together conventional scientists and alternative healthcare professionals. But, in reality, once promising research became one of the biggest cancer research scandals in United States history! Now, for the first time ever, Nicholas Gonzalez, M.D. reveals how his enzyme-based approach was deliberately designed to fail compared to conventional (chemotherapy) treatment protocols for cancer. The next NaturalNews Talk Hour will forever change the way you look at "modern" cancer research and western medicine. Visit: http://www.naturalhealth365.com and enter your email for FREE show details + a FREE gift! Can enzyme-based therapy help cancer patients? In 1906, embryologist Dr. John Beard proposed that pancreatic proteolytic digestive enzymes represent the body's main defense against cancer, and that enzyme therapy would be useful as a treatment for all types of cancer. Particularly during the first two decades of the twentieth century, Dr. Beard's thesis attracted some attention in academic circles, and several case reports in the medical literature documented tumor regression and even remission in terminal cancer patients treated with proteolytic enzymes. In 1911, Dr. Beard published a monograph entitled "The Enzyme Therapy of Cancer and Its Scientific Basis", which summarized his therapy and the supporting evidence. More recently, Nicholas Gonzalez, M.D. authored "The Trophoblast and the Origins of Cancer" - which reviews Dr. Beard's work from the perspective of contemporary molecular biology. Don't miss this rare opportunity to learn more about an amazingly successful (natural) way of treating cancer. The Truth about the NCI-NCCAM Clinical Study In 1998, the NCI approved funding for a large scale clinical study, in which Dr. Gonzalez's nutritional-enzyme therapy would be compared to the best available chemotherapy in the treatment of patients diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. Along with his colleague Dr. Linda Isaacs, they initially approached this project with enthusiasm, believing it to be a wonderful opportunity to bring the conventional academic world and "alternative" researchers, so often at odds, together for the benefit of science and for patients suffering terrible illness. But as the years passed, they realized (with disappointment) that the same biases against treatment methods developed outside of the mainstream still reigned supreme. In fact, scientists and physicians at the highest levels of academia would do anything, even change the truth to prove an unconventional therapy has no value. Eventually, under the direction of the supervisors from Columbia (the site for the project), from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), the study degenerated into a morass of mismanagement, meaningless and manipulated data, the welfare of patients put at risk, and sadly, cover-up of the mismanagement right into the office of Dr. Elias Zerhouni, former NIH Director. The depths of deception go (almost) beyond belief! This week's guest: Nicholas Gonzalez, M.D. - Cancer Expert Discover the SHOCKING truth behind "modern" cancer research - Thu. July 26 Nicholas J. Gonzalez, M.D., graduated from Brown University, Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude, with a degree in English Literature. He subsequently worked as a journalist, first at Time Inc., before pursuing premedical studies at Columbia. He then received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1983. During a postgraduate immunology fellowship under Dr. Robert A. Good, considered the father of modern immunology, he completed a research study evaluating an aggressive nutritional therapy in the treatment of advanced cancer. Since 1987, Dr. Gonzalez has been in private practice in New York City, treating patients diagnosed with cancer and other serious degenerative illnesses. Now, for the first time ever, Nicholas Gonzalez, M.D. reveals how his enzyme-based approach was deliberately designed to fail compared to conventional (chemotherapy) treatment protocols for cancer. U.S. government's secret wiretaps violate the Constitution, rules court

Finally, a federal court has ruled that the government has overstepped its constitutional bounds that are supposed to curb its ability to spy on citizens. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court ruled recently that the National Security Agency - the nation's premier global spy - has, "on at least one occasion," violated the Constitution's Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable search and seizure. The ruling from the secret U.S. national security court is the first time the federal government has acknowledged its spy activities overstepped legal parameters since passage of a law in 2008 "that overhauled surveillance laws following the uproar over the NSA's warrantless wiretapping program in the George W. Bush Administration," The Wall Street Journal reported. The finding of the court was disclosed in a letter from a top aide to National Intelligence Director James Clapper, to Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., the latter is a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee and a potent critic of the law which permits warrantless wiretaps. The aide, Kathleen Turner, a senior official in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said in the letter that the agency had "remedied" the problem which led to the violation. She also said subsequent surveillance requests had been approved by the court. 'Transparency, compliance, oversight' In commenting about the ruling, Wyden said the government had at times "circumvented the spirit of the law" in conducting its surveillance and wiretapping operations. He noted the national security court has agreed on at least one occasion. "Many officials have tried to present a picture of careful compliance with both the law and the constitutional rights of Americans," he said, WSJ reported. "This information shows that hasn't always been the case and there have been what I consider to be some serious violations." Turner's letter, which was also sent to the Senate committee chairwoman, Dianne Feinstein of California, and its ranking Republican member, Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, provided few, precious details regarding the court's ruling. It also did not say whether anyone at NSA was disciplined or otherwise faced consequences because of the ruling. Deflecting questions regarding details surrounding the violation, Intelligence office spokesman Michael Birmingham emphasized that the director is committed to "transparency, compliance, and oversight." And, in her letter, Turner did note that Clapper had concluded that "the public interest in disclosure outweighs the damage to the national security that might reasonably be expected from disclosure." A spokesman for Wyden said declassification of the ruling was a victory for the American people, in that it represented the kind of transparency necessary for a healthy debate regarding the nation's spy activities. Currently, Wyden is blocking consideration of legislation in the Senate that would extend the 2008 law for five years because he says the government has failed to disclose the number of Americans who have been spied on since its passage. Law is set to expire unless... The House Judiciary Committee voted 23-11 on June 19 to extend the law; the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 10-8 along party lines to extend it for three years. As is, the law is set to expire at the end of 2012. "The law established broad search warrants that permit eavesdropping of categories of people connected to national security threats, rather the requiring warrants for individual people," the Journal said. The court's role is to consider requests from the government to conduct electronic surveillance and physical searches of foreigners in the U.S. suspected of engaging in terrorist activities or espionage. The court approved every one of the government's 1,674 applications to conduct electronic surveillance in 2011, an April 30 Justice Department report to congressional leaders noted. After lawmakers called for more transparency, the Obama administration created a process which considers declassifying the court's opinions beginning in 2010. On May 8, the Justice Department said no court rulings had yet been cleared for release, in response to a public records request. Source - www.naturalnews.com

Why you must take a Vitamin B-complex if on birth control

That one tiny pill that you pop every day may be the reason you feel tired and have no energy. There is a proven connection between taking oral contraceptives and the depletion of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), which is responsible for helping the processes of your body to produce energy, along with the rest of the B vitamins. Long-term pyridoxine deficiency can lead to lack of energy, depression, decreased brain function and higher levels of homocysteine. Even though taking birth control pills have a whole host of negative effects on the body, if you are on the pill, supplementation is necessary. Why you need B6 Your body's ability to use specific vitamins efficiently is greatly reduced and a direct side effect of taking the birth control pill. Vitamin B6 plays a role in immune function, protein metabolism and in over 100 enzymatic reactions that take place in the body. This vitamin also helps with the biosynthesis of neurotransmitters and maintaining homocysteine levels. Homocysteine is an amino acid found in the blood and high levels have been associated with heart disease. Dietary sources of B6 aren't enough, if on the pill The B vitamins are water soluble, which means they are not stored in the body and must be ingested through foods or supplementation. Food sources of B vitamins include: bananas, prunes, tomatoes, avocado, garbanzo beans, cruciferous vegetables, walnuts, hazelnuts, and the skin of potatoes. Most people have enough B6 from dietary sources, but women on birth control are fighting an uphill battle if they aren't also supplementing. Not all supplements are created equally When looking for a high quality B complex, it is important to look at the list of other ingredients. Make sure there are no artificial ingredients, colors/dyes, preservatives, wheat/gluten or dairy. Timed released B complexes offer nutritional supplementation over a period of six to eight hours to aid in energy and stress control. Poor quality supplements do not provide adequate nutritional value and may do more harm than good. Educating patients is vital Researchers at Tufts University found that 75 percent of women taking oral contraceptives, who were not supplementing were deficient in B6. Most medical providers prescribing oral contraceptives should be aware of the direct depletion of vitamin B6 and its correlation to decreased energy and depression. Educating patients on the importance of supplementing with a high quality B complex while on the pill is an essential part of practice. If you are on the pill and were not advised to supplement ask your healthcare provider for more information and find a good, quality vitamin. Source - www.naturalnews.com

The only safe bioidentical hormones

The words bioidentical hormone have become synonymous with safer hormones because they are made of natural substances that are biochemically identical to a woman's natural hormones. Although they are natural, they are still hormones and taken in too large a quantity can still stimulate cancer growth. The best approach to balance a women's hormonal system is to balance the other systems of the body first, then if hormone replacement is needed, it will be in such small amounts that it will not trigger cancer cell formation. With the premature termination study by the Women's Health Initiative, which linked hormone replacement therapy with increased breast cancer risk, many women ceased taking hormone medication. And although their breast cancer rate decreased, their quality of life also decreased. Symptoms of estrogen and progesterone imbalances like: irritability, mood swings, anxiety, depression, decreased sex drive, sleep problems, weight gain, fatigue, food cravings, water retention, bloating, headaches, joint pain, acne, PMS, irregular menstrual periods and brain fog once again reappeared. This caused women to seek out possible safer alternatives to standard hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This is when bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) entered the scene as a possible way to get back to a normal way of life again. The bioidentical hormones were made from natural substances instead of pregnant horse urine. The question arose, if HRT is unsafe then how can someone be certain that BHRT is safe and will not cause cancer like the standard HRT? Estrogen is a growth hormone. This hormone decreases appetite, improves mental capacity, stabilizes mood, acts as an antidepressant, promotes sex drive, keeps skin thick and tight preventing wrinkles, it helps prevent osteoporosis, heart disease and Alzheimer's disease. This all sounds good, for a woman to feel like she is 20 when she is 50. There is one catch - when the body is stimulated to do all these at too high a level when it is 50 years old, the risk of increasing cell growth and cancer also increases. Taking bioidentical hormones without increasing cancer risk If you looks at BHRT from a physiological standpoint, you can find the answer: Taking supplemental hormones to make a woman feel great and not increasing her risk of cancer. There are five major systems along with the biochemistry and mental/emotional states that control your health and life they are in order: • Nervous • Hormonal • Digestive • Eliminative • Reproductive These five systems when functioning normally along with balanced biochemistry and mental/emotional states promotes total health. Hormonal health is no different from neurological health or digestive health. They are all interconnected and what is done to one is done to them all. So to balance estrogen and progesterone levels does not lie in just taking potentially safer bioidentical hormones, but in balancing your nervous system including the neurotransmitters, hormonal system in order of priority: first the pituitary gland (master hormone regulator), then the thyroid gland (metabolism), followed by the pancreas (digestion and blood sugar), next are the adrenals (stress response) and finally the ovaries which produce estrogen and progesterone. Women need to understand that ovaries are last in order of importance in the hormonal system. You can see it much more than taking a hormone to feel better, but balancing all systems and states in order of priority. When this is accomplished, if a woman needs to take bioidentical hormones they will be safe and not produce cancer because the need will be a much smaller dose; the body is now in balance, needing just a little help in the female hormonal area. This opportunity to see the actual recipes and photos of what 48 raw fooders eat goes with this summer's theme of uncovering truth about what really goes on, even in the natural health movement. Raw food rule-breakers spill the beans Given human nature, it turns out, some well known raw fooders don't eat what they teach us to eat, and that's documented in "What Do Raw Fooders Eat?" That's why some authors declined to participate in "What Do Raw Fooders Eat?" They didn't want to be judged by their meal logs for what they actually ate. They didn't want to be examined under a microscope. But "What Do Raw Fooders Eat?" has some brave rule breakers who did put themselves on the line. This is the first time they expose what they really eat, even when it's not raw or "politically correct." What I got from reading this is if you eat differently than a health food book or a raw food book, then you're not alone - even among the so-called authorities in raw food. If following the rules has been a struggle, these case studies will put your mind at ease and give you permission to listen to your own body. In fact, you may be surprised - and relieved - to see how many seasoned raw fooders eat cooked food. You'll also find out which cooked foods are most popular in the raw food community. Lifestyle remedies for the management of asthma

Around 17 million people in the United States alone have asthma. It is the number one cause of chronic illness in children. Despite the wide range of medications made as treatment for asthma, the number of people affected by asthma increased by 2.5 million in the US over the past five years. Alternative options from acupuncture to breathing exercises are available for the management of asthma. Doctors may disagree with alternative recommendations for how to treat asthma but unlike medications lifestyle remedies do not harmful side effects. What is asthma? Asthma is characterized by breathing trouble, coughing and wheezing. A person with asthma is subject to episode constriction of their bronchial tubes. A severe attack can even be fatal. The reason behind the constriction of the bronchial tubes is not known, but some triggers include respiratory infection, exercise and emotional disturbances. Alternative therapies and treatment for asthma Bodywork, acupuncture and biofeedback all show promise in the management of asthma. Rolfing and osteopathic manipulation are two types of bodywork that can be performed on the chest area to break up restrictive patterns in muscles and nerves, which are common in people with chronic asthma. An acupuncturist can develop an individual form of treatment for asthmatics. Research has demonstrated that acupuncture can significantly decrease the frequency of asthma attacks and improve breathing. Biofeedback teaches people how to control their heart rate and therefore may be useful in the management of asthma. Biofeedback also can reduce stress, which is a common trigger for asthma. How to treat asthma with breathing techniques A series of breathing exercises beneficial for asthmatics was discovered in 1952 by Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko, MD. The exercises are known as the Buteyko Breathing Technique. Dr. Buteyko surmised that over-breathing is a significant factor in the development of asthma and other breathing difficulties. To help asthma sufferers breathe more easily, Dr. Buteyko developed a system of shallow-breathing exercises. Shallow breathing elevates levels of carbon dioxide in the blood. Carbon dioxide may help to dilate smooth muscles in the airways. At least one large study found that the Buteyko Breathing Technique reduced asthma symptoms. People were also able to rely less on their inhalers. Management of asthma through management of stress Stress can trigger an asthma attack. Alternative treatment for asthma frequently involves relaxing activities. Yoga, guided imagery and progressive muscle relaxation may all aid in the management of asthma through reducing stress. Deep breathing exercises can be relaxing too, but may trigger asthma symptoms in some people. Asthma guidelines for the home People spend 90 percent of their lives indoors. Therefore it is particularly important for asthmatics to have as few respiratory irritants, including dust, smoke and mold, floating around their home as possible. Irritants like to hide in carpets, drapes, mattresses and furniture. These items should be cleaned frequently and replaced whenever possible with hypoallergenic alternatives. High-quality air purifiers can reduce pollutants in the home. Himalayan salt lamps also help clean the air because they attract water vapor, which pulls irritants along with it as the vapor travels to the lamp where it then dissolves on contact. Certain houseplants purify the air too. Palms and rubber plants are just some of the houseplants that clean the air. Source - www.naturalnews.com

US government ran chemical experiments on military veterans under operations MKUltra, Bluebird and Artichoke

The United States, for its warts, has achieved much in its short 230-plus year history. It is a benevolent world superpower, for the most part, that serves as a beacon of hope and freedom for an increasingly oppressed world, even as it serves as a guardian against tyranny for as many as half of the world's nearly seven billion people. But a few chapters in our history - slavery, oppression of the Native American tribes, causes of the civil rights movement, and moments of unconstitutionality on the part of our elected leaders - serve as more than simple blemishes on an otherwise admirable record of defending liberty and freedom. One such stain is the way we've treated some of our nation's military veterans. The maltreatment is summed up in a recent federal case. In late July, a group of veterans managed to win a court order forcing the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to hand over a trove of documents detailing the department's alleged Cold War-era drug experiments on Vietnam vets. What's problematic about this case isn't the decision - the VA owes these veterans any answers they are seeking - but the fact that the case had to be filed at all. 'Project Paperclip' According to court documents, U.S. Magistrate Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley, in Oakland, Calif., said in her ruling that the documents requested by the veteran-plaintiffs were "squarely relevant" to their claim that the government, through the VA, did not adequately notify veterans of chemicals they were purposely exposed to during experimentation, and - perhaps more importantly - what effects that exposure might have had on their physical and mental health. Details of this sad episode in our history were contained in a 2009 class action suit. Filed by the Vietnam Veterans of America and individual soldiers, the suit charges the U.S. Army and the Central Intelligence Agency, with the help of former Nazi scientists, of using at least 7,800 vets as guinea pigs to test the effects of as many as 400 different types of drugs and chemicals. They included mescaline (psychedelic alkaloid), LSD (psychedelic drug), amphetamines, barbiturates, nerve agents and mustard gas. The suit also says the government worked to cover up the testing and the nature of its experiments, which began in the 1950s under such exotic code names as "Bluebird," "Artichoke" and MKUltra." The government launched "Project Paperclip," the suit alleges, an all-out effort by the Army and CIA to allegedly recruit former Nazi scientists to help test various psycho-chemicals, as well as develop a new truth serum using the nation's own vets as test subjects, Courthouse News Service reported. "Over half of these Nazi recruits had been members of the SS or Nazi Party," said the class-action suit. "The 'Paperclip' name was chosen because so many of the employment applications were clipped to immigration papers." According to Colin A. Ross, a psychiatrist and author of "The CIA Doctors," said he pored over more than 15,000 documents he received from the nation's premier spy agency detailing the "mind control" operations which he said took place between 1950-1972 "at many leading universities including Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Johns Hopkins and Stanford." The goal, simply, is mind control In a report posted on the Citizens Commission on Human Rights International's Web site, Ross said "MKUltra and related programs had several over-lapping purposes." "One was to purchase mind control drugs from suppliers. Another was to form relationships with researchers who might later be used as consultants at the TOP SECRET level," he wrote. "The core purpose of these programs was to learn how to enhance interrogations, erase and insert memories, and create and run Manchurian Candidates." Ross said all of that is documented "clearly and explicitly" in the declassified CIA documents he obtained, though he said it was merely "a glimpse into the tip of the iceberg of CIA and military mind control." "The experimental subjects were not told the real purpose of the experiments, did not give informed consent, were not afforded outside counsel and received no meaningful follow-up," he wrote. "As described by the psychiatrists in published papers, experiments with LSD and other hallucinogens, combined with sensory deprivation, electroshock and other interrogation techniques, resulted in psychosis and death among other 'side effects.' The purpose of these experiments was to see how easily a person could be put into a psychotic state or controlled." In a review of the MKUltra program, which was launched in 1953, Wired.com said its goal was, simply, mind-control. "1953: The agency launches one of its most dubious covert programs ever, turning unsuspecting humans into guinea pigs for its research into mind-altering drugs," said the report, which said then-Central Intelligence Agency director Allen Dulles authorized the program. "Dulles wanted to close the 'brainwashing gap' that arose after the United States learned that American prisoners of war in Korea were subjected to mind-control techniques by their captors," said Wired.com. Programmable assassins "Loathe to be outdone by foreign enemies, the CIA sought, through its research, to devise a truth serum to enhance the interrogations of POWs and captured spies. The agency also wanted to develop techniques and drugs - such as 'amnesia pills' - to create CIA superagents (sic) who would be immune to the mind-control efforts of adversaries." The creation of so-called Manchurian Candidates - a programmable assassin, essentially - was also a goal of the program. Besides drug and chemical experimentation, the program included the use of radiological implants, hypnosis and subliminal persuasion, electroshock therapy and isolation techniques, the report said. In their suit, the vets level similar charges - that the government was attempting to develop and test substances capable of inducing mind control, euphoria, altered personalities, confusion, physical paralysis, mania, illogical thinking and other effects. Many of the experiments, the suit says, were conducted at Army facilities at Edgewood Arsenal and Ft. Detrick, Md. Some left a number of veterans saddled with debilitating health problems for decades to follow. Worse, the veterans say the government has neglected to provide follow-up medical care to mitigate the damages. Some soldiers died from the testing, while others suffered physical and mental ailments including seizures and paranoia, an earlier ruling in the case noted. In this latest bid for full disclosure, the VVA sought documents from the government that reveal the VA's processes of identifying and notifying soldiers who may have been exposed to the chemical and biological tests. No relevant medical purposes In arguing against releasing the documents, attorneys for the VA said the agency should be exempted from doing so by the deliberative process privilege, which aims to shield the decision-making processes of government agencies. Judge Corley did not buy the argument, ruling instead that that veterans group and others "have demonstrated a sufficient, substantial need to overcome the qualified deliberative process privilege." "The Court agrees that considerable discovery has been provided on this subject; however, having reviewed the thousands of pages of documents submitted for in camera review, the Court notes that these processes are far from clear or consistent, and in fact, seem to have undergone numerous modifications over time," she wrote. Corley ordered the VA to release more than 40 documents, which she said were "both relevant and unavailable from other sources given that the documents reflect processes which have evolved over time." Writes Ross, "The purpose of mind control experiments is controlling human behavior: making enemy combatants open up during interrogation; protecting secret information by erasing memories; making spies more resistant to interrogation because secret information is held by hidden identities and making people more prone to influence, social control and suggestion. "The mind control experiments and operational programs violate basic human rights and all codes of medical ethics," he said. The government should never use American citizens or others for any sort of experimentation, at least without first getting consent. Using those who protect and defend us for the same is unspeakable. Action Alert - Institute of Medicine accepting public comment on proposed vaccine safety study

The Institute of Medicine (IoM), an organization under the umbrella of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), is currently in the process of putting together an assessment on the health outcomes of vaccinated versus unvaccinated children. And part of this process includes accepting public comments about the government's recommended vaccination schedule, a provision that represents a key opportunity for the natural health community to collectively share with the IoM our thoughts and concerns about the safety of vaccines. As many NaturalNews readers are well aware, there is still plenty of controversy over whether or not vaccines are safe and effective, despite what the government claims. And this debate spills over into other debates about the federal government's official vaccination schedule, and whether or not it is appropriate for young children. The vaccine schedule is one particular area of concern that has received far less attention than it deserves, and one that the IoM seems ready to address as part of its new study. In a commissioned paper titled "Study Designs for the Safety Evaluation of Different Childhood Immunization Schedules," consultant Martin Kulldorff, Ph.D., provides suggestions to the IoM about various ways in which a comprehensive vaccine safety study could be constructed, particularly with the CDC's vaccination schedule in mind. The paper addresses key issues of importance such as the timing of vaccinations, the quantity of vaccines given in a single day, the interaction of various vaccines with one another, the short and long-term effects of various vaccinations, and other intricacies that are often ignored when discussing vaccine safety. "The core of this paper is a set of proposals for the type of study designs and methods that would be appropriate for the comparative evaluation of vaccine adverse events under different vaccine schedules," says the paper. "When evaluating the safety of different vaccine schedules, it is ... important to study the whole range of issues, from the timing of a single vaccine to summary metrics based on the timing of dozens of vaccines." You can read the full 41-page revised commissioned paper, which was published on July 12, 2012, here: http://www.iom.edu Submit your comments about the Childhood Immunization Schedule before July 31 As the IoM considers how it will evaluate the safety of childhood vaccinations based on the recommendations outlined in this paper, the group will also be considering what you and I have to say about the matter. To facilitate this, the IoM has set up a public survey portal through which you can express your thoughts about vaccines, and highlight specific issues related to vaccines that are most concerning to you. You can access the survey portal here: http://www.surveygizmo.com This is a great opportunity for health-conscious individuals everywhere, including those who have experienced first-hand the devastating effects of vaccines, or who know a family member or friend who has, to share their concerns about vaccines with a group that is well-respected among many in America and around the world. But it is important that you submit your comments by July 31 to ensure that the IoM receives them and includes them as part of its assessment considerations. Be sure to take some time to read the report, or at least browse key portions of it, so you are familiar with the issues addressed. If you are already well-versed about the vaccination schedule, or have your own thoughts about how it should be studied to properly identify links between vaccines and health damage, be sure to include those in your survey answers as well: http://www.surveygizmo.com It is important to note that your survey answers and comments, as well as all other personal information you enter as part of the survey, will be published in a Public Access File in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). Bill Gates dumps another $10 million into researching new GM crops for agricultural takeover of Africa

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is once again busy funding efforts to promote the spread of the agricultural cancer that are genetically-modified (GM) crops, this time in the form of a $10 million grant it recently issued to a group of British scientists working on new GM crops that require no fertilizer. According to the U.K.'s BBC, the justification behind the need for such research is that the GM crops will supposedly benefit African farmers that are unable to afford fertilizer. Researchers from the John Innes Centre (JIC) in Norwich will specifically use the grant, which happens to be the largest single investment into GM crops ever made in that country by a private organization, to create novel varieties of corn, wheat, and rice that pull nitrogen out of the air rather than from material fertilizers. Certain crops, including beans already do this naturally, which is what led scientists to begin a process of trying to artificially splice nitrogen-pulling genes into various other crops. "We believe if we can get nitron fixing cereals we can deliver much higher yields to farmers in Africa and allow them to grow enough food for themselves," said professor Giles Oldroyd from JIC, lead author of the new study. More GMOs in Africa means less food freedom, more agricultural slavery Sounds great, right? Except that the genetic alterations will plunge even more African farmers into a vicious cycle of having to purchase licenses every year from corporate giants like Monsanto, which prohibit the saving and reusing of their proprietary seeds. And if the new crops fail to deliver as promised, which has happened time and time again with GM crops in the past, the farmers that adopt the patented technology will be in worse shape than if they simply continued on with their traditional crop systems. "If you look in America, yields haven't increased by any significant amount and often go down," said Pete Riley, Campaign Director at GM Freeze, an alliance of organizations that is raising awareness about the deception of GM technologies, about the overall failure of GM crop systems to produce more food than conventional and organic crop systems. "Now we're seeing real, major problems for farmers in terms of weeds that are resistant to the herbicides which GM crops have been modified to tolerate," added Riley. GM technologies have not improved crop yields Numerous studies have also shown that GM crop systems do not perform better than traditional crop systems, and oftentimes perform worse. A groundbreaking study recently published by the respected Rodale Institute; for instance, found that traditional, organic growing methods produce higher crop yields, and are far more sustainable, than any of the "Frankencrops" that have ever emerged from Monsanto's research laboratories. (http://www.naturalnews.com/033925_organic_farming_crop_yields.html) Africa's best bet; in other words, is to stick with trying to implement more organic polyculture crop systems that utilize what the natural environment has to offer rather than what Monsanto's marketing department claims to offer. Organic crops are still the safest, most nutritious crops available to mankind, and they come with none of the many health and environmental problems caused by GM crops. Source - www.naturalnews.com
